Favorite Local Author

For the first time since 2016, we have a new favorite local author in the top three, and she stole first! Toni Mattson, co-founder of Trinity Equestrian Center, penned her debut book, Unlikely Recruits, in 2025. Her book is an inspiring account of veteran stories who found hope and healing while connecting with horses. Next is New York Times best-selling author Michael Perry — a small town guy with a big voice. He’s best known for Population: 485, but my personal favorite is Peaceful Persistence — a humorous essay collection about… well, lots of things. Local legend, professor, and author extraordinaire B.J. Hollars released another book last year. Be sure to check out Dinosaur Dreams — voted one of the Best Local Books Released in the Last Year. —Stephanie Nesja
