Being in a band is great, sure, but sometimes an individual musician can really make things shine. Whether fronting his solo band or strapping on an acoustic guitar and singing on his own, Chris Kroeze is this year’s Best Individual Musician for the sixth consecutive poll. Coming in second with her trademark saxophone in hand is Sue Orfield, followed by musical juggernaut Emily Watkins, who somehow took a moment away from her 6,000 musical projects to come in third. —Parker Reed
