There is something brand-new coming to the west side of Eau Claire: What was once the site of Tailgates Sports Bar on the corner of Clairemont Avenue and Cameron Street will soon be home to Casey’s General Store, a convenience store and car wash.

Casey’s has more than 2,000 locations nationwide, including one that opened recently in Altoona. Casey’s history dates back to 1959, when founder Don Lamberti leased a store from his father in Des Moines, Iowa. After many years of operation, Lamberti eventually had quite a success on his hands and he continued to open stores throughout the country. Casey’s success has been attributed to cleanliness, friendly employees, and freshly prepared food items, including homemade pizzas.

Those pizzas have already become quite a staple at the Altoona Casey’s, 2375 Saint Andrews Drive. Besides pizza, Casey’s also offers burgers, subs, hot sandwiches, salads, soft serve, sweet treats (like puppy chow!), and of course fountain drinks. Casey’s will also be a one-stop shop by offering customers delicious food and a chance to fuel up for the daily commute or whatever adventure awaits out on the open road.

The Casey’s coming to Eau Claire will have a few differences from the Altoona location, including a car wash and 14 fueling stations. The former Tailgates (which was once Wally’s Chalet) and an adjacent auto repair shop have been demolished, and construction on the site is underway, with the store slated to open soon.
