It’s weird. Doctors tell us to walk. Environmentalists want us to walk. Cities would prefer that we walk. Yet right on the routes to all of our favorite destinations are obstacles like Clairemont Avenue, whose six lanes of traffic make pedestrians feel like squirrels darting after downed acorns. And what if you need to visit one of the pharmacies on Hastings Way and Brackett Avenue on Eau Claire’s Eastside Hill? Better lace up those running shoes tight! In third place, the intersection of Highway 93 and Hamilton Avenue near Micon Cinemas is enough to send walkers back to their cars. –Eric Rasmussen
