You don’t have to ignore the Chippewa Valley’s incredible trails just because there’s snow on the ground. Whether you’re into Nordic or classic style cross-country skiing, the sport makes for great exercise in the winter months. Ranking first among the region’s trails are those at Beaver Creek Reserve. This 9-mile trail system is great for all levels, and Beaver Creek hosts beginning classes early in the year and also rents equipment. Sliding into second is the Irvine Park trail, 2 miles of classic-style skiing in a Chippewa Valley beloved outdoor attraction. Polling in third is Tower Ridge County Recreation Area, which boasts a 12-mile system of groomed trails on hilly and flat areas snaking through wooded terrain. —James Johonnott
