There are few purer joys in life – or easier ways to relive your childhood for a few speedy seconds – than whizzing down a snow-covered hill on a thin sled of molded plastic. For an even decade, Volume One readers have said that Pinehurst Hill (3523 Delbert Road, Eau Claire) is the best place to sled in the Valley (and if you ever tire of sledding, they’ve got skiing, skating, and so much more to enjoy during wintertime). And once again the perennial bridesmaid in this category is the slope next to Forest Hill Cemetery, (822 Emery St., Eau Claire) nicknamed “Seven Bumps” for its series of spine-jarring outcroppings. In third place is Altoona’s beloved Jelly Bean Hill (McCann Drive), which you’ll find tucked behind Altoona Family Restaurant on the city’s south side. –Tom Giffey
