Wisconsin just wouldn’t be Wisconsin without the bountiful state parks, lakes, and trails. If you want to be amongst those to enjoy the great outdoors this summer, make sure you snag one (or a couple) of the 2023 State Trail Passes, available for purchase now.
Passes are available through Dec. 31, 2023, and are required for people over the age of 16 who want to bike, in-line skate, ride on horseback, or use any other sort of recreational vehicle to get around on state trails. Passes are not required for walkers and hikers.
“Our 700 miles of equestrian trails and thousands of bike miles provide outside recreation, enjoyment, and health and wellness opportunities to millions of visitors each year,” said Steve Schmelzer, Parks and Recreation Management Bureau director, in a press release. “State trail pass sales help DNR staff maintain these trails, both our linear trails and those heavily used trails inside of parks and forests for bikes and horses, and it helps us continue to expand the network of available miles to residents and out-of-state visitors alike.”
Annual passes are $25 for both residents and non-residents, but a day pass is available for $5. Trial fee revenue is used to maintain and operate the state trails so folks can continue to enjoy them for years to come.
You can purchase your annual or day passes at most Wisconsin State Park properties, the closest to and within the Chippewa Valley being Lake Wissota State Park (18127 Co Hwy O, Chippewa Falls), Old Abe State Trail (13836 County Hwy S, Jim Falls), or the Chippewa River State Trail (9555 194th Ave., Mondovi). You can also call any state park property during their office hours to pay over the phone.
