It’s not entirely clear why we feel so much pride when someone from where we’re from hits the big time, but it’s a real phenomenon. Case in point: Chris Kroeze. Ever since his appearance on NBC’s The Voice, Chris has been western Wisconsin’s musical darling, and not just because of proximity. His big voice and musical skills are more than enough reason to earn him a No. 1 spot. One the Chippewa Valley’s tenured musicians, Sue Orfield, lands at second place on the strength of her blues and rock talents. And taking third is Sean Jordan, currently studying at the Berklee School of Music, by way of Black River Falls and Regis High School in Eau Claire. – Eric Rasmussen
