Perhaps you've seen a dark shape looming on street corners? Maybe headlights peering out from a shadowed cemetery? Strange lights when crossing a bridge? Like an ominous cloud on the horizon, The Chippewa River Trolley Co.'s Eau Claire Dark History Tour is back to haunt the city streets of Eau Claire – and to cast a light on the dark stories buried in its past.
Since its inception in 2023, the Eau Claire Dark History Tour has been an unmissable part of each year's spookiest season. Now in its fourth year, this season's run includes dozens of dates now through Nov. 4.
Earlier this year, to meet the demand for tours with a darker edge, The Chippewa River Trolley Co. added a new experience to its lineup and a companion to the Dark History Tour; the Unsolved Histories Tour.
The Unsolved Histories Tour focuses on brand new stories of mysterious, unexplained crimes and deaths throughout Eau Claire's history.
But never fear (or maybe do); the original has returned. The Eau Claire Dark History Tour will once again offer riders a chance to explore the seedier side of Eau Claire history, both distant past and modern, with tales of crime, scandal and the just plain bizarre.
You'll hear harrowing tales; murders from Eau Claire's very first to one of its most notorious, a bizarre hypnotism craze that swept the town, piles of dead horses and a missing buried elephant, ghosts and hauntings, lumber family drama, some of the oldest graves in town and more.
The "final destination" will be a visit to a nearly century-old chapel, where you'll hear tales of murders committed in that very cemetery and get a rare look at the secrets kept below.
