The Chippewa River Trolley Company is proud to introduce its newest tour, "UNSOLVED HISTORIES: True Crime & the Sultry Sins of Summer, a Dark History Tour."
In 2023, the Chippewa River Trolley showed you a darker side of Eau Claire with The Dark History Tour, sharing historic and modern tales of crime, scandal, hauntings, and the just plain bizarre. The tour became wildly popular, and trolley-riders have demanded more ever since.
So, the Chippewa River Trolley Company went back to the archives to find even more stories.
This year, the trolley has prepared another dark journey for you, chock full of new stories. "UNSOLVED HISTORIES," which embarks at 9:00pm – Thursday through Saturday from July 9 through Aug. 29 – is a scandalous, summertime spinoff of the original autumnal, spooky season dark history tour, with a focus on true crime stories and unsolved deaths.
The tour includes over 20 brand new stories, not seen on the original Dark History Tour, plus an exclusive, much deeper dive into one story mentioned on that original tour.
When the summer heat rises, so do the stakes and scandals, and this tour is here to tell the tale of the hotter and darker side of Eau Claire’s past. Join your host and wade into the murky waters of unsolved true crimes and mysteries that baffled the investigators of yesterday as well as the historians of today.

You’ll hear stories spanning more than 100 years, from as recent as the early 2000s to all the way back to the 1870s, most of which remain unsolved, either in motive or culprit. The night will be filled with stories of murder, scandal, affairs, disappearances and more, many of which made national news at the time.
You’ll hear about brothels, faked deaths, mob hits, seedy establishments, deathly “coincidences,” poisonings, exhumation, murders in broad daylight, town-wide lynch-mob hysteria and more including our “final destination;” a walk back into history to the night a mystery gunman shot the police chief and fled across the Chippewa River (and whose treasure has yet to be found!)
Find your new crime obsessions, rabbit-holes, conspiracy theories, and more to explore on UNSOLVED HISTORIES: True Crime & the Sultry Sins of Summer.
UNSOLVED HISTORIES: True Crime & the Sultry Sins of Summer, a Dark History Tour, embarks from The Local Store (215 N Dewey St., Eau Claire) at 9:00pm, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays – starting July 9 until Aug. 29. To purchase tickets, visit chippewarivertrolley.org.
