Rebecca Mennecke

Associate Editor

Rebecca Mennecke joined the Volume One team as Associate Editor in 2020, and immediately hit the ground writing and reporting "Outbroken: A pandemic’s impact on Wisconsin food & farms," one of Volume One’s most ambitious storytelling projects, which was awarded Best Pandemic Story in Print and Video by the Milwaukee Press Club and Best Digital News Project by the Local Media Digital Innovation Awards.

In addition to breaking news; writing features on the arts, entertainment, culture, food, and recreation scene in the Chippewa Valley; and creating engaging social media content, Rebecca serves as prose reader for the Chippewa Valley-based literary journal Barstow & Grand as well as poetry reader at the national literary magazine The Adroit Journal.

Rebecca studied creative writing and journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and formerly served as editor of None of the Above (NOTA), managing editor of The Spectator, Lead Student Assistant at W.D. McIntyre Library, Senior Writing Assistant at the Center for Writing Excellence, and interned for the Chippewa Valley Writers Guild and Barstow & Grand. She is particularly passionate about amplifying the voices of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, disabled, and neurodivergent individuals. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering for local nonprofits, nature photography, watching true-crime documentaries, rock climbing, and crafting. She currently lives in downtown Eau Claire with her black cat, Cuttlefish.
