5 Healthy Alternatives to Air Fresheners

Alyssa Schulte

Many of us rely on air fresheners to eliminate unpleasant odors in our homes as well as add a pleasant smell to our surroundings.  But do we really need to buy something to bring sweet smells t our humble abodes? Many sprays and plug-ins smell too strong or unnatural and it’s no secret that they aren’t helping the environment at all.  Below are 5 natural alternatives to artificial air fresheners.

Sachets

A sachet is essentially a mesh bag filled with herbs, spices and dried flowers in order to make a kind of potpourri.  The best things about sachets are how easy they are to make yourself!

Essential Oils

Essential oils are the actual aromatic compounds from the flowers, plants and fruit we love the smell of so much. All it takes is a little oil and a heating element to fill your house with all the scents of nature

House Plants

While they may not add a specific scent to your home house plants are a great way to filter out the air and get some fresh 02 inside.

Air it Out

Simply opening some windows can make a huge difference.  Letting fresh air flow through your house is a great way to scare away some of those nasty scents that can hang out in your home.

Use the Oven

This is by far my favorite suggestion.  Set the oven to 250 degrees and fill a pan with water apple slices and slide it in the oven.  In no time your house will smell like fresh apple pie!
