Local breweries and eateries often welcome folks dressed their best for the spooky season with a Halloween shindig of sorts, and while those are still fun to hit with friends, if you’re looking for something more the Chippewa Valley still has you covered. Here are five local happenings that are sure to be a hoot – or a scream – this Halloween season:

Eau Claire’s Oddities Market

Saturday, Oct. 5, 12-5pm • The Fire House (202 Gibson St., Eau Claire) • Free entry

Swing by The Fire House in downtown Eau Claire to shop spooky art and oddities galore from a dozen vendors, hosted by local horror-themed joint, Black Kettle Tea Shoppe. Stay awhile and enjoy some beer in the adjacent beer garden before or after shopping!

Mystery Room at Schlegelmilch

Sept. 28-Oct. 27, various times • Schlegelmilch House, Eau Claire • All ages • $40

Jinkies! Step back into the groovy 1970s and uncover the truth behind Schlegelmilch House's suspected haunting. With only 60 minutes on the clock, you'll have to work together with your group to decipher clues, win games, and more in order to win – and discover the truth. (This escape room-style event is also a Chippewa Valley Museum fundraiser!)

Skelebration and Adult-Scary Chills After Dark

Saturday, Oct. 19, 7-9pm • Chippewa Valley Museum (1204 E. Half Moon Drive, Eau Claire) • 16+ • $20

While kids can enjoy the Chippewa Valley Museum’s Skelebration activities earlier in the day, the adults get to play once the sun goes down! View live performances of chilling tales in the bunkhouse, schoolhouse, and Anderson Log House, and take a tour of the haunted Machine Shed. Morbid curiosities will be on display and more horror stories and activities will be offered before making your way to the ice cream parlor for adult beverages, ice “scream,” and mocktails.

The Yooper: A Bloody Hilarious Horror Show

Eau Claire’s improv club is hosting its annual Halloween show, paying homage to all the ’80s slasher films clad with practical effects (fake blood!) meant to make you laugh. Written by Oh Claire Improv's JP Fry, “The Yooper” will tell the tale of a group of teenagers on a cabin trip in Michigan when they hear of a supernatural being haunting the area. What could go wrong?

Dark History Trolley Tour

Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 6pm + 7:30pm from Sept. 27-Nov. 2 • The Local Store (205 N. Dewey St., Eau Claire) • 18+ unless with a parent • $32-$35

Board the Chippewa River Trolley Co. for its second annual Dark History Trolley Tour, investigating the seedy underbelly of Eau Claire and its history from its very first murder to one of its most notorious. Ride along to explore red light districts, lumber family drama, and some of the oldest grave sites in town. Plus, exit the trolley for its “final destination”: a nearly century-old cemetery chapel and discover what lurks below ...
