As much as people love to complain about taxes, they love to use public services, too. In the case of these three services, the love of using outweighs the love of complaining. For the second consecutive year, the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library (400 Eau Claire St., Eau Claire) is readers’ choice for Best Use of Taxpayer Dollars. With thousands of books, DVDs, tech items, and much more to take home, not to mention the Dabble Box, a nifty kitchen, and other cool new features to enjoy while you’re there, the library is a shoo-in. Next up is the Valley’s high-quality public education system (from 4K through college) and the protect-and-servers at the Eau Claire Police Department. –Tom Giffey
