Finnley the Corgi (@finnley.the.corgi) and his human Katie have been inseparable for six years, during which the duo has explored the Eau Claire area as well as lots of western Wisconsin and beyond. (In fact, they were just in Door County and even took a trip to Utah.)

Katie started Finnley’s Instagram account “as just a way to share pictures with family and friends, and then it kind of grew into a lot more.” Now, Finnley has nearly 11,000 followers there. Many are local, but often people from out of state and even around the world follow along to see what he’s up to.

Katie loves that she can share the great things going on in the Chippewa Valley on any given day – and even gets invited to local events and openings that Finnley would enjoy. She’ll also get messages from people asking about specific outings, local events and more.

“I just enjoy taking him to the dog-friendly places and featuring them to hopefully reach more people that aren’t from the area, so they can see our experiences,” Katie says. Finnley agrees with a bark!

Katie acknowledged that while traveling with a pup is great, it can also take a bit of extra planning. When Finnley's part of a trip, she makes sure there are dog-friendly places ahead of time, saying she has to poke around and do research to find those types of spots.

For local outings, Katie often checks out the Visit Eau Claire website; she uses that same tactic – looking at a community's tourism website – to plan for out-of-town destinations.

Finnley the Corgi's Perfect Eau Claire Itinerary

First up, he'd head downtown to Phoenix Park (330 Riverfront Terr.) for a long walk along the beautiful rivers, then stop at coffee shop SHIFT (615 Graham Ave.). Finnley loves that he can pop in with Katie where they both can enjoy a drink (a pup cup for Finnley, of course) and sit outside together.

Afterward, he'll peruse Barstow Street, which has a lot of dog-friendly places to explore and shop! His final stop would be over at Pet Food Plus (2819 E. Hamilton Ave.) for a toy or treat, of course!

Keep up with Finnley the Corgi (technically, he's a Pembroke Welsh Corgi!) on Instagram.
