SIP THIS. River Bend Winery & Distillery kicked off May by launching a new varietal: its own Pinot Gris.

Chippewa Falls’s River Bend Winery & Distillery (10439 33rd Ave.) is stepping into its next summer season with several exciting additions – and to-be-announced surprises – for longtime regulars and new visitors alike.

One of those was just unveiled on Friday, May 1: a brand new wine.

The locally-owned winery and distillery launched its new Pinot Gris varietal as a kick-off to May, now availably by the glass or bottle. Described as light and crisp, notes of pear, green apple and just a hint of citrus break through for an easy-to-drink dry wine – perfect for patio season.

Owner Sara Antonson gave props to her husband and son-in-law, as their wine-making chops produced the new wine (and all of River Bend’s wines).

“I alway say that making wine is chemistry,” Sara said. “It’s the finesse of the taste and the finish; fermenting and blending and tasting to get something we’re truly happy with.”

The new Pinot Gris comes in at 12% alcohol content and costs less than $20 per bottle. Swing by River Bend to sample it and other wines during open hours (11am-8pm on Wednesday; 11am-7pm, Thursday-Saturday; 11am-5pm on Sunday).

Keep up with Volume One and River Bend online for a forthcoming announcement from the local winery, just in time for the summer season.
