Instead of just two wheels riding through the city of Eau Claire, imagine an entire community pedaling together. The annual celebration of Wisconsin Bike Week isn’t just about the ride — it’s a celebration of unity, outdoor spirit, and the growing momentum toward accessible cycling for all.
Bike Week in Eau Claire will take place from June 1-8 this year with the returning goal to promote bike safety and the economic benefits of cycling — with numerous opportunities for bicycle exploration throughout the state, Visit Eau Claire shared online.
Nicole Billings, co-director of the Valley Girls cycling club and current chair of the City of Eau Claire Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC), will participate in her third Bike Week as a resident of E.C. this year.
Bike Week doesn't solely focus on cycling — contrary to the week-long event title — it highlights Eau Claire's dedication to promote outdoor recreation access and its broader advantages beyond the trails, Billings said.
The overall focus (of Bike Week) is to get more people thinking about biking — both for recreation and transportation. I've been able to see over time how small groups of people can advocate to make a more bike friendly community. –Jeremy Gragert, Bike Chippewa Valley president
“The cycling community goes well beyond just people who are passionate about cycling,” Billings said. “(Bike Week) impacts the entire community: the economy of the community, the mental health of the community, the physical wealth of the community, the connectedness of the community.”
To this end, Billings — and Chippewa Valley Bike Week partners alike — will offer educational opportunities to encourage participation and involvement in the outdoors. Organizations such as the Valley Girls, Citizen Action of Wisconsin, and the Menomonie Market Food Co-op will host informational tables and community activities at various events during the first week of June.
More than 15 organizations are collaborating with the Wisconsin Bike Federation for this event, including the three mentioned above.
The week-long series of events will start and end with parties located at Haymarket Plaza (128 Graham Ave., Eau Claire). The initial celebration on Sunday, June 1, will feature a beach-themed six-mile ride. The annual Bike Week Party, bringing together organizers from the week's various events, will be held on Friday, June 6 — the final weekend of Bike Week. Awards and prizes will be presented by BPAC at the event.
Bike Chippewa Valley President Jeremy Gragert shared the return of Morning Bike Commuter Stations for the first four days of this year's Bike Week. Participating bike commuters and morning riders can visit designated stations for complimentary coffee — a light breakfast — and free bicycle safety inspections.
This requested event will be reintroduced as part of the week-long celebration — alongside other recurring activities residents enjoy annually — all with a mission to showcase the cycling culture Eau Claire has grown in the last decade.
“The overall focus (of Bike Week) is to get more people thinking about biking — both for recreation and transportation,” Gragert said. “I've been able to see over time how small groups of people can advocate to make a more bike friendly community.”
