Since the beginning days as a section editor through her high school newspaper, Evelyn Nelson has found a deep love for uncovering the stories of her surrounding community.
Evelyn arrived in Eau Claire in 2019 to pursue her undergraduate degree at UW-Eau Claire, where she graduated with a B.A. in journalism, environment, society, and culture, along with American Indian studies. These intersecting pathways opened the doors to pursue her career in multimedia communications.
During her time at the university, she fulfilled Volume One Magazine’s editorial internship, worked as a section editor on the campus newspaper, and created multimedia event campaigns through her executive board position within the Student Office of Sustainability.
Since graduating in 2023, Evelyn has remained a proud member of the Eau Claire community, engaging with her peers over cups of coffee and her passion for visual storytelling.
Prior to Volume One Magazine, Evelyn served as a Social Media Coordinator. In this role, she improved her skillsets in content development, multimedia communication, and graphic design. This work was done in tandem with her roles as a Barista and Manager at a local coffee shop — where both her curiosity and network in the Eau Claire community grew exponentially. In the last year, Evelyn resumed her role as a contributing writer and photographer to the magazine, leading her to the Associate Editor role she will now continue with the publication.
When not at the office, Evelyn savors quality time with her loved ones at SHIFT Coffee Bar, photographing live music events in town, and sourcing for her growing collection of hand-made ceramics.
