There’s no time like the present, especially for local entrepreneurs-to-be who are in need of a how-to and resource rundown. The City of Eau Claire Economic Development Division (ECEDD) recently launched its “Business Startup Toolkit,” a comprehensive review of how to do the damn thing.

The online hub is organized into three sections – “Planning,” “Setting Up,” “Launching” – and offers step-by-step guidance depending on where you’re at in the start-up process. The toolkit is specific to Eau Claire, presenting only what you need (or may need) to know to get going in the city.

By parsing through existing resources from statewide platforms like the Wisconsin IRS, Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. and others; regional and national entrepreneurship best practices; industry-standard startup frameworks and more, the Business Startup Toolkit translates relevant information into one concise resource.

Viewers can filter through the toolkit by topic and frequently asked questions, including how to choose a business structure and register a business, how to navigate local licensing, permits and zoning, accessing financing, among others.

“Our division’s goal is to make Eau Claire a place where entrepreneurs can move from idea to opening day with clarity and confidence,” Kendall Williams, ECEDD’s specialist, said in a recent media release.

“This new hub is our first step in making entrepreneurship more accessible, and we plan to continue building on it as new resources become available and more questions arise from the region’s growing entrepreneurial community,” the release stated.

Upon follow up, Williams said additional resources are in the works, building off of the new Business Startup Toolkit.

“We hope to launch similar hubs for businesses ready to expand, businesses looking to relocate to Eau Claire and businesses ready to sell (also known as 'succession planning') by 2027,” she said.
