Local youngsters from Meadowview Elementary here in Eau Claire were awarded bragging rights this week by simply choosing to eat and be healthy.

The school gained recognition by making changes to the lunch menu, allowing students to stuff themselves with greens instead of grease.  And it’s working!  Faculty members have noticed kids choosing healthier food options … on their own. Imagine that. But “being healthy” doesn’t just mean choosing an apple over French fries.  The school has also taken steps to provide a more active environment for their students, including after-school programs where kids can exercise with their friends.

Third grade teacher Kris Pressler accepted the Alliance for a Healthier Generation Award (that’s a mouthful, isn’t it?) on Monday from none other than former President Bill Clinton.  (Awesome.)  Meadowview was one out of 275 schools across the country to receive the award.

Of course, we’ve known how awesome our Eau Claire kids are for years.  But it’s great they’re being nationally recognized for it.  You’ve made your city proud, exercisers and healthy eaters of Meadowview.  Keep it up!
