Eau Claire’s Fairfax Pool is saying “hello” to its 2022 season, and to a new partnership with a local ice creamery.

Ramone’s Ice Cream Parlor will be scooping up ice cream cones for the pool’s attendees every Tuesday and Thursday this season from 1-4:30pm, including some kid favorites like Superman (the red, blue, and yellow combo).

The downtown E.C.-based business typically features 24 flavors including gluten-free, non-dairy, nut-free, sugar-free, and vegan options, but will start out at Fairfax with eight flavors.

When the parlor’s owners were approached by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department with the opportunity to set up shop at the pool, they were immediately on board.

“It means a lot when people reach out and want to collaborate, and Fairfax Pool is a treasure to the community,” said Kayla Midthun, one of the parlor’s owners.

it’s summer! where is more beautiful to be than looking out at a crystal clear, blue pool?

“It’s a fun option for the people visiting the pool, but it’s also just a fun place for us to be," Midthun said.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are typically busy days at the pool, so while Ramone’s will start out just on those days, there is potential for the shop to be there more often if the demand is there.

A unique facet of the ice creamery is its commitment to giving back to the community through its “Cash for a Cause” program. On a rotating basis, the program lets team members pick a charity of their choice to donate their tips to. This summer, some of the tips earned at the pool will go towards Fairfax’s scholarship fund for people in need of a subsidized pool pass.

“We sell ice cream, but what we’re aiming to do is so much more than that: It’s about the community,” Midthun said.

Oh, and don't forget! Although Fairfax Pool had its opening day this past Saturday, June 4, you can still snag a season-long or day pass the rest of the summer.
