Looking for some outdoor fun this New Year’s weekend? It may be time to dig out those ice skates, because several rinks and warming shelters in Eau Claire are open as of this week.

Eau Claire Parks, Recreation, and Forestry announced Thursday that general skating and boarded hockey rinks are open at both Roosevelt Park (908 Folsom St.) and Putnam Heights (530 W. Tyler St.), and that warming shelters at both sites will be open Dec. 30 to Jan. 2 between noon and 7pm.

Starting Monday, Jan. 3, regular warning shelter hours will be 4-7pm Monday-Friday and noon-7pm Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, rinks at Boyd Park (1202 Fairway St.) and Pinehurst Park (3523 Delbert Road) will open for skating once they’ve been prepared for use.

The city reminds users that they are required to wear face coverings inside shelters and should stay home if they aren’t feeling well.
