Nominations Open For 10th Sustainable Eau Claire Awards
individuals, initiatives, organizations and businesses can be nominated across a dozen categories
The City of Eau Claire’s Sustainability Advisory Committee is calling for nominations, pivoting to a spring nomination cycle with 12 categories for its 10th year.
The Sustainable Eau Claire Awards initiative honored its inaugural awardees back in 2016, and over the years has changed its nomination categories a handful of times; for the past two years, there were just three categories: Outstanding Business; Outstanding Organization; Outstanding Individual.
Nominations – completed through an online form, seeking specific qualifications and "supporting documentation" like media coverage, documents or photos – are due by Sunday, March 1.
This year, individuals, initiatives, organizations and businesses could be nominated in any of the following categories:
- Clean-Up or Beautification
- Energy: Renewables, Efficiency, or Conservation
- Environmental Education
- Exceptional Natural Resources Stewardship
- Green Building Design
- Green Products or Practices
- Local, Sustainable, Healthy Food
- Sustainable City Staff
- Transportation Innovations
- Waste Reduction, Composting, or Recycling
- Water Quality or Water Conservation
- Student Leadership in Sustainability
“These awards not only celebrate great work already happening but also inspired others to take similar steps toward sustainability,” a recent media release noted.
Previous winners have included local businesses such as Riverflow Refinery, Tree Purpose of Eau Claire and Festival Foods-Eau Claire; orgs including The Pablo Foundation; JONAH Environmental Task Force and UW-Eau Claire Student National Environmental Health Association; and individuals, including Memorial High School educator Alicia Howe, Jeremy Gragert and Benny Haas.
