TALK TAXES TO ME: UWEC Students to Offer Free Income Tax Help

In need of some face-to-face, free income tax assistance this spring? UW-Eau Claire accounting students are offering their help through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a service of the IRS and Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
Appointments are currently available for March 21, March 28, and March 11. A handful of documents are required in order for the volunteers to prepare your tax return, including:
- Photo ID
- Social Security cards for taxpayer, all dependents
- Earning statements
- Copy of prior year tax return
- Forms 1095-A, Affordable Health Care Statement
- Interest and dividend statements from financial institutions
- Rent certificates from landlord or property tax statement
- Financial institutions routing number and account number for direct deposit
To qualify for service at this VITA site, individuals should have an income of $67,000 or less. A select number of returns cannot be prepared by VITA volunteers: married filing separately, business returns, rental, and farm.
Time slots are filling up fast for the local tax help, so snag your spot quickly! No walk-ins will be accepted, so you must sign up online. Appointments will be held at the food court in Davies Student Center (77 Roosevelt Ave., Eau Claire).
