What Are Wisconsin’s Favorite Baby Names?
Hint: a city in North Carolina and a Mount Rushmore-worthy president
Looking for a baby name that will stand out or maybe blend in? Then you’d better check the latest list of most popular newborn names in Wisconsin.
According to the stats crunched by the Social Security Administration – the federal folks who know your name and your number – the top name for Wisco girls in 2023 was (drumroll please!) Charlotte, which took the No. 1 position for the fourth consecutive year. The top 10 list of girls’ names was remarkably consistent between 2022 and 2023: In fact, the first six names – Charlotte, Olivia, Evelyn, Amelia, Emma, and Nora – were identical on both year’s lists. By comparison, Charlotte has been the third-most-popular name nationwide for the past three years, with Olivia being the No. 1 female name across the U.S.A. (Meanwhile, Madison – a good name for a Wisconsinite if there ever was one! – was the 77th most popular name in the state last year.)
The list of most-used boys’ names in the Badger State last year was also pretty consistent, although a little more shuffled than the girls’ list. Eight of the top 10 names were repeats from 2022 to 2023, with Theodore risking from No. 4 to No. 1. The previous year’s champ, perennial fav Henry, slipped to a respectable fourth place, while Oliver held fast in second place from 2022 to 2023. Nationwide, the No. 1 boys’ name was Liam, while Theodore ranked seventh.
The bottom line: Naming your newborn is a highly personal decision, but it’s good to know what’s trending for the kindergarten class of 2030!
