Sustainability isn’t just for summer. Eau Claire’s inaugural Sustainability Festival, put on by Sustainable Eau Claire, is in fact a Winter Sustainability Festival aimed at educating families and children in particular about the benefits of a sustainable lifestyle. From 1 to 5pm, festivalgoers can visit more than 50 vendors and exhibits on sustainable health, food, growing practices, and energy. To keep the kiddies entertained, many vendors will host activity tables with interactive learning opportunities like seed planting and charting distances from where food is grown to where it is sold, said event coordinator Jill Christopherson. Christopherson hopes that educating children about sustainable practices will drive the culture of the family to be more sustainable, as well. Participants can purchase tickets for a catered dinner to be held at 5pm followed by family square dancing from 6 to 7:30pm with music by Duck for the Oyster. Tickets for the dinner are $15 and available at First Congregational United Church of Christ and Just Local Food, both in Eau Claire.
