You hear it all the time: word-of-mouth is a powerful thing. As a local, family-owned small business, West Creek Event Center has garnered a reputation for offering a hands-on and personalized experience for gatherings of all kinds, especially weddings. In a community made up of deep-rooted families and close-knit locals, that reputation has gone far, helping West Creek Event Center earn the titles of #1 Venue for a Wedding, Wedding Reception, and Special Event Venue in the 2025 Best Of the Chippewa Valley Reader Poll.

Located off of Highway 37, 6 miles South of Eau Claire, West Creek Event Center stands with a classic Midwestern outdoors backdrop and offers a sprawling, open-concept interior that has been host to weddings, family gatherings, and many more events. Large enough to welcome upwards of 300 people, yet warm and inviting enough for smaller gatherings as well, the venue’s charm is thanks to its decades’ worth of history.

Before Kory and Samone Peterson bought the historic building and renovated it into the stunning, rustic-modern space it is today – fitted with air conditioning and heating; a full sound system; large presentation screen for photo and video displays; a bridal suite, additional outdoor party space, and more – it experienced many lives: perhaps best known as the former Club 37, where many dances/receptions were held, the location had also been a bar, restaurant, organic food store, hosted live music, sporting events, and was originally built as a barn in the 1800s. That unique character is still seen at West Creek Event Center today.

After buying the building in 2019, Kory – born and raised in the Chippewa Valley – along with his parents and close friends, poured their hearts into renovating the space for the next few years, and brought back many of the original barn elements that had been covered up over the years. The elegant wood beams seen inside along its vaulted ceiling are made from the original hayloft floor, and the indoor bar is made of the original barn boards.

In the midst of the building’s renovation process, Kory and Samone were approached by a couple with a family connection to the historied building. They were adamant on getting married there once they found out it was turning into a venue space. “They simply wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer,” Samone laughed. “We were willing to work even harder to get it ready for their wedding day. And we did.”

“We have and will continue to always go above and beyond for people,” Kory added. Years later, the Petersons are still offering their personalized care, and that’s why West Creek Event Center has become a fast favorite across the Chippewa Valley and region.

Starting the business after just planning their own wedding, Kory and Samone had first-hand experience in the trials and tribulations of doing so – including the hefty price tag.

“Our main goal for the venue was to create a space that looked and felt really nice, but remained affordable,” Samone explained. “I mean, we had just been through the whole process and knew it would be easy to spend $20,000 to $30,000 on your wedding, and we didn’t want to do that. So, that became a goal for us: to offer a completely family-run business that didn’t break the bank, but could still meet all the expectations of our clients.”

At the heart of the local family-owned business, their original mission is the same today as it was when the Petersons first envisioned West Creek Event Center. “Going forward, affordability is still such a huge thing for us,” Samone said. “We just want people to really enjoy their special day – and not break the bank. We have overseen so many events here at this point, we are always ready to offer ideas and advice, and a helping hand.”

For weddings, full use of West Creek Event Center’s facilities are offered when they choose the local venue. Among its variety of space and services, that includes the flexibility to do their ceremony rehearsal and/or decorate the day before their event, and the morning after to pick things up. Many amenities are included in the venue’s pricing. On the big day, Samone is personally available onsite for the entirety of the event to ensure a smooth experience.
