A white wedding can mean more than the color of a bride’s dress: In the case of Renee and Mike Sommer of Eau Claire, it meant being surrounded by a crisp blanket of snow when they were married on Jan. 29, 2016, at the secluded Cabin Ridge outside Cadott. The wedding party rode to the ceremony in a horse-drawn sleigh, and each attendee received a hand-written letter from the couple. In turn, each person gave the couple a letter, which were sealed in a wine box created by local woodworker Ron Litland with a bottle from River Bend Vineyard & Winery of Chippewa Falls, which is to be opened on the couple’s 10th anniversary. The couple wrote their own vows (Batman, Green Lantern, and sloths all were mentioned) and the ceremony was performed by Judy Giles, Cabin Ridge’s proprietor. Renee wore a gown from David’s Bridal and a custom-made wedding band, and attendees enjoyed a brunch reception complete with a “naked” cake from the Frosted Petal in Eau Claire and a bacon-and-egg brunch. That particular combo is symbolic for the couple: They took time on their wedding day to get bacon-and-egg tattoos!
