$10K Donation Kickstarts Financial Literacy Center at UW-Stout
Financial Wellness and Literacy Center is expected to make significant impact
The Jamf Nation Global Foundation awarded Junior Achievement of Wisconsin a $10,000 donation that is funding a pilot program with UW-Stout: the Financial Wellness and Literacy Center.
The new on-campus center will continue to be a collaborative effort between Junior Achievement and UW-Stout, with the JA office in Eau Claire to provide curriculum, expertise, and implementation support when the center launches.
The Financial Wellness and Literacy Center (located in Harvey Hall, 74E) will offer as-needed support for students with questions and needs related to financial decisions and topics. UW-Stout plans to deliver content and support in person, explore online and hybrid options, and eventually bring larger classroom programming to students in an event setting.
The most significant impact of the pilot program is expected to be with underrepresented, financially vulnerable populations such as first-generation college students, minorities, and low-income individuals, according to a recent media release.
Volunteers at the center will work with students on an array of financial topics focusing on paying for college, budgeting, scholarships, food plan management, and financial aid resources.
“Students growing up in rural communities don’t always have access to resources to help them develop money management skills,” said Susan Peterson, northwest Wisconsin aea Director for Junior Achievement. “The center will provide financial literacy programs on campus, at no cost to students, with volunteers mentors and hands-on learning experiences that show underserved students how they can become self-sustaining members of their community.”
