East Hill Electric has built itself into one of the Chippewa Valley’s highest-rated electrical contractors by providing prompt, professional service to residential and commercial customers of all sizes.

“Literally no job is too small,” says Ryan Emerson, who founded East Hill Electric in 2011 and has grown it to a 22-employee business serving customers in a one-hour radius of Eau Claire. From a quick service call to replace a light bulb to huge commercial jobs such as a 70-plus unit apartment building development on Golf Road, East Hill Electric prides itself on treating customers right.

“Something that just grinds on me is the lack of service out there,” says Emerson, who has been working in the industry for more than 25 years. “The lack of accountability, the lack of showing up, the lack of answering the phone. More often than not, we hear ‘I reached out to everyone on Google, and you’re the first one that returned a call.’ … We’ve had people break down in tears when we said, ‘We can come. We’ll be there in a little bit.’ ”

As the business has expanded, it’s been able to handle a larger volume of residential service calls on top of the work it’s done with contractors since the beginning. East Hill Electric has also added a full range of security systems for residential and commercial use to its offerings.

Since late 2022, East Hill Electric has operated out of a 10,000-square-foot headquarters on Eau Claire’s east side. Emerson, who became certified as a master electrician in 2005, started his own business in 2011, working from his family’s home on Highland Avenue in Eau Claire’s Eastside Hill Neighborhood. The name of that neighborhood — as well as the East Hill neighborhood in Chippewa Falls – inspired the name of his business, he says, emphasizing the regional service area.

“We really stress service here,” Emerson says. “We’re going to do it right the first time, and if you’re not happy with what we did, we’re going to be here to answer that call and to get you taken care of.”

That attitude has been with East Hill Electric from the beginning. For the first five years of the business, Emerson worked by himself, quickly forming connections with building contractors and doing electrical work for custom homes and then apartment buildings. Eventually, he began to add employees when he was hired to wire a 40-unit apartment building.

Emerson attributes the growth of the business to building a solid foundation of relationships with customers and the community. “The attitude always is not to do one job together, but to work together as long as you possibly can,” he says. He points out that the office hallway is lined with plaques listing numerous contractors the business has worked with again and again, a reminder to employees of the ongoing need to take care of these clients.

As the business has grown, so has its ability to offer more products and services to customers. Most recently, that means beginning to offer residential and commercial security systems under its East Hill Security division. “We’re trying to get people to think differently about security in their homes,” he says. It’s not just about security cameras and alarms, but about automated systems that can detect fire, leaking water, or even an escaping pet.

“If you’re on vacation, you can literally access your cameras,” Emerson explains. “You can turn your water on and off, you can tell if your house is on fire, if there’s carbon monoxide in your home – anything. To be able to communicate with your home from anywhere in the world, that’s what security is about.”
