Nothing says “spring” quite like the smell of fresh flowers and fun-filled outdoor festivities. Both can be found at the Spring Fling event on May 22 from 10am-4pm on the corner of Golf and London roads in Eau Claire.

This event will showcase more than 30 vendors with unique art mediums, such as sign art, macrame, pottery, and much more. A lot of the art is being made specifically for this event and will flaunt the flora theme.

“A lot of the artists have been making art exclusively for this event,” said one event organizer, Kelly Speros, “so there’s gonna be a lot of floral-themed botanical art.”

There will also be food trucks available, including Munch-a-Bunch (based in Marshfield) and coffee specials from a new Eau Claire coffee shop, Plaza Perk. On top of the vendors and food trucks, the event will highlight planted flowers on the grounds and flowers for sale by other businesses, such as a new local business, Field Road Flowers. You can also check out many plant vendors, including Chippewa Valley Growers, who will be selling hanging baskets and pots. The main flower on display will be tulips.

“I planted 4,000 tulips last fall,” said Jody Wilhelm, another event organizer. “Hopefully we will have tulips blooming at that time, so we’ll cut the tulips as well, and have some bouquets.”

If tulips, art, and great food wasn’t enough, there will also be model train displays from Model Train Classics. There is something for everyone at the Spring Fling event.

“Spring is so exciting, and it’s so nice when the plants are coming up and you can get outside and things are green,” Wilhelm said. “There’s just no better time for people who like to plant than right away in the spring.”

This is the first year of Spring Fling, but it won’t be the last. Next year the event is planned to be held in Fall Creek. If your thumb is green, this event is definitely for you.
