Big Branch-Out: A look at Down to Earth’s major expansion
Down to Earth Garden Center, a local family owned business offering landscaping services and retail sales at 6025 Arndt Road in Eau Claire, has recently expanded its Garden Center to offer customers a more complete shopping experience. The expansion includes three new greenhouses, the addition of a garden shop, a facelift to the Five & Two Café, a new Mustard Seed Boutique (which offers clothing and locally made goods), a much larger outdoor shrub and perennial yard, more than 100 more paved parking spots, its own paved road entry, two additional bathrooms, and a large perennial shade area.
Ben Polzin, who owns Down to Earth Garden Center with his father, John Polzin, and cousin, Dominic Paull, said the expansion has allowed the center to offer a lot more merchandise – living and otherwise – including items not previously sold at the garden center.
“We wanted a complete shopping experience in one location that gives the customer a tease of many different senses,” Ben said. The greenhouse will feature a larger selection of indoor plants, annuals, perennials, shrubs, herbs, and veggies. The expansion also added the Mustard Seed Boutique, which offers items such as women’s clothing, local goods, and shoes. Locally produced home décor, candles, soaps, Melnaturel products, and jewelry by Penny Lodahl and Hello Adorn are available at the boutique as well.
Ben said the inspiration for the expansion came from wanting to give customers a whole new shopping experience – to make it as fun and enjoyable as possible. Now customers can enjoy more space, more plant life, a gift shop, and a coffee and panini in a renovated café. “We can’t wait to show everyone what is new!” Ben said.
The greenhouse, boutique, and café are all open seven days a week. To learn more, check out www.dwntoearth.com.
