Though they have traveled different sonic paths, The Spine Stealers and Agnes Uncaged shared their mutual talents of emotive storytelling – rooted in the landscapes of the past – with Eau Claire audiences this past week. 

On Thursday, June 18 at LIVE at LEONA's (406 Galloway St., Eau Claire) the two Wisconsin and Minnesota-based bands graced the venue's fairy-lit stage to share their latest collection of music.

Together, both Agnes Uncaged and The Spine Stealers are back on the road for a Midwest tour; both acts weave threads of deep-seated nostalgia into their music, creating atmospheric worlds that resonate with the surreal and the literal alike.

Formerly “creeping charlie,” Agnes Uncaged of Minneapolis, Minn. has received attention across the Midwest for their guitar-driven indie rock tunes. Between Julia Eubanks' dynamic vocals to the balance of "grittiness and prettiness" from Esmé Eubanks (bass) and Jack Malone (percussion), the trio performed tracks from the group's 2026 record, Cyanotype.

For The Spine Stealers, based in Madison, a trip through Eau Claire often serves as a homecoming for Emma O'Shea (guitar, vocals) – an alumna of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Joining her folk hymns at the Leona's venue were James Strelow (pedal steel); Catherine Peluso (banjo) and special guest Jack Malone (percussion).

The band most recently released their second EP, Yellow Feather in 2025. Over the years, The Spine Stealers have supported acts including Haley Heyndrickx, Chris Acker, Basia Bulat, The Last Revel, Them Coulee Boys, Dead Horses, Wild Horses, Charlie Parr, among others.

Thursday's performance was anchored by an eclectic array of handcrafted merchandise from the artists – ranging from wheel-thrown ceramic mugs to screen-printed apparel, postcards and yes, even intimate garments (a "you had to be there" sort of souvenir) that rounded out the night.
