A perennial favorite of poll voters, the Chippewa River State Trail runs for 30 miles, connecting Eau Claire to the countryside on a smooth pavement path (the perfect alternative to driving). Any biker will appreciate the change of seasons while gliding through local parks and along river banks. The runner up, Lowes Creek County Park, offers trails for mountain bikers of all skill levels ranging from beginner to advanced. For more beautiful riverside scenery, the Old Abe State Trail runs (except for a tiny gap) from downtown Eau Claire to Brunet Island State Park in Cornell, following an abandoned railroad grade and allowing bikers to find themselves submerged in the natural world. — Tori Johnson
