House of Gouda Announces Relocation To Chippewa Falls

Chippewa Falls' multi-use small business hub and community space, and headquarters of Wisconsin Farmers Union, Market On River (128 W. River St.), has landed award-winning cheesemaker Marieke Penterman's specialty shop as a new in-house biz.
House of Gouda, which first opened its doors at 4008 Commonwealth Ave., Eau Claire (formerly Pier 1 Imports) in the spring of 2023, offers a wide-ranging variety of cheese, meats and more charcuterie essentials, plus customizable charcuterie boards and cheese samples.
According to a media release shared today, June 26, House of Gouda will celebrate its grand opening at Market On River on Thursday, Aug. 6.
"We are so excited to bring House of Gouda to Chippewa Falls," Penterman stated in the release. "This new space gives us the opportunity to create an even more inviting spot for our guests to experience Marieke Gouda, try cheeses and connect with the community."
The move to Market On River makes sense, considering Penterman's dairy farming roots which led to her lauded cheesemaking career. Born and raised in the Netherlands, growing up on her parents' dairy farm, Penterman later earned her bachelor's degree in dairy business before moving to the United States.
The Penterman dairy farm started up in Thorp in 2002, and in the fall of 2006, Marieke crafted and released the first batch of her Marieke Gouda. Four months later, it won the gold at the U.S. Champion Cheese Contest, in 2007. Marieke Gouda now has well over 160 awards to its name.
The Eau Claire House of Gouda location will close its doors on Tuesday, June 30. During the transition period, cheese lovers can still find their favorite Marieke cheese online or by visiting its Thorp location (200 West Liberty Dr.).
