New Neighbors

Dewey Street, along with a few other parts of downtown Eau Claire, has welcomed a few new – and some familiar – neighbors to its storefronts. At one of the top corners of the North Barstow District recently welcomed GSB Thrifting (224 N Dewey St., Eau Claire) to its small biz fabric. What does GSB stand for? Grandma Sue's Basement! The owner's plan for the new brick-and-mortar remains true to their beginnings at vintage pop-up markets: give locals access to unique, secondhand clothes without breaking the bank. Needless to say – speaking for the V1 editorial staff, at least – we'll be making many more additions to our wardrobes thanks to our new neighbors.

New Murals

The vibrant new mural alongside The Pickle (341 Water St., Eau Claire) definitely warrants a second (and third and fourth and fifth and...) look. Featuring a pleasing palette of gold, bright blue, and pink, the installation is the work of Menomonie-based artist Jenna Wood. Created in collaboration with the Milwaukee Brewers as part of their statewide series, the piece perfectly captures the "Wisco Way"; It pays homage to Eau Claire’s love of the outdoors, music, creativity, nature, kubb, and community.

New Little Library

Eau Claire's Boyd Park (1202 Fairway St.) just welcomed a new little library, uniquely fit for the local skaters almost always found hanging out there. Folks can now enjoy the little free skate library (with three skateboards used in its construction; made by local Chad Rowekamp), where the Eau Claire Skaters Association encourages people to donate their old decks, trucks or wheels (that still have life left in 'em) to, for others to use. Pretty sweet.
