Find Your Green Thumb at Tin Roof Garden
whether you already have a green thumb or not, there is surely a gardening class for you this spring
The Tin Roof Garden has been welcoming folks to its pollinator-friendly property on the south side of Eau Claire since 2013, and alongside its bursting plant and merchandise offerings, it also frequently hosts gardening-related classes.
We are lucky in the Chippewa Valley to be home to many organizations and businesses that hold workshops and classes of all kinds, including regular offerings like succulent-planting classes and potting classes. Whether you’re a newbie looking to dip your thumb into gardening and see if you do, indeed, have a green thumb, or are well-seasoned and looking to take a unique kind of class, look no further.
With their full spring class schedule available online, you can plan ahead to take a class or two, or bring friends and family to make it a gathering! Of the dozen classes still available from May to June at Tin Roof Garden, here are a few that stand out:
- Bees & Honey Tasting on Saturday, May 4
This 10-11am class will feature local beekeeper and entrepreneur Drew Kaiser of Kaiserson Bee Company. He will discuss what you can do to help bees out and even how to take up beekeeping yourself. Drew will also bring honey for a tasting. Attendees will learn how season and location affect what ends up in the jar. Free to attend. - Spaghetti & Salsa Pots on Saturday, May 25
Spaghetti, salsa, and … gardening? Why, yes, of course! If you’re a fan of homemade salsa and sauces, this 9-10am class is for you. Tin Roof Garden will provide the materials and directions for you to learn how to plant a pot with the essentials for spaghetti sauce or salsa. Take a porch pot home and enjoy the fruits of your labor all summer long! This class costs $50.
- Drawing in the Garden on Saturday, June 29
Don’t be scared if you haven’t taken a whack at drawing in some time, all levels of skill and experience are welcome to join in on this low-key 10-11am drawing class. With beautiful views of plants of all kinds, flex your creative muscles by bringing them to life on paper – or whatever else you want to create art on and with! Bring your own supplies, including drawing materials. Tin Roof Garden will have some supplies on hand. Free to attend.
For the kiddos, Tin Roof Garden has a variety of classes too, including Backyard Critters, presented by Beaver Creek on May 11; Story Time in the Garden on June 1; and Kids Garden Stone Painting class on June 8.
