As we move into 2023, there are some changes in trends in cabinetry and colors, while some previous trends are still going strong. Check out what the Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association’s members have reported as trends for 2023.

Warming up with Patterns and Pops of Color

This year is all about the warm and neutral tones. From paint colors to cabinets, you will see the shift to a more earthy palette. While you will still see pops of color appearing, those colors are more likely to come with textures and unexpected colors.

Kitchens are seeing a shift to natural wood tones replacing the white cabinets. Back splashes are featuring limestone and other natural stones. Texture may be used in cabinet doors, hardware, and décor elements. When looking at flooring options for your next project, wood and Luxury Vinyl Plank still take the lead.

When selecting paint colors, warm neutrals are holding strong. The Sherwin Williams 2023 Color of the Year is Redend Point. This soft mauvy beige will pair well with the earthy shades of your home. If white walls are still your preference, then try Behr’s pick for the year, Blank Canvas. This warm white will allow you to keep the white trend while still modernizing it, and – as the name suggests – this color will pair well with everything.

While the trend has shifted to a neutral color palette, bold colors are also making a statement with a shift towards rich and luscious shades. Pantone’s pick for 2023 is Viva Magenta. As the name suggests, this is a bold color. If you use this shade on your walls try a neutral color sofa and wood accent pieces.

Benjamin Moore has decided to make Raspberry Blush their focus this year. This warm coral would be stunning in a dining room with a large wooden table and elegant gold accent pieces.  Cinnamon reds, terracotta, and other warm reds will be everywhere. When planning out your remodel consider ways you can add these colors to your home.

Working Pantry

A trend that has gained a lot of attention is a working pantry. When working on a kitchen renovation or new build, if the space allows, you may want to incorporate a working pantry. This is a dedicated space for meal prepping and houses extra appliances such as coffee machines, an extra dishwasher, and even a second oven. Open shelving is budget-friendly and makes it easy to access food and pantry staples. All of the prep can happen in the working pantry and keep the clutter out of sight.

Work With What You Have

Look for places in your current home that can be upgraded or repurposed. Is there an unused corner that can be converted to a small office? Or you can create an accent wall that incorporates the ceiling, flip a piece of furniture to get that high-end look or build your own custom built-ins. Thrifting is a good way to find new pieces to upgrade your home. Try to look at your home with fresh eyes to see how a small budget can give you a whole new look.

Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency options are staying top of mind for most homeowners. Making your home eco-friendly and cutting costs are two big factors when deciding on how to upgrade your space to be more efficient.

Installation of solar panels are now being covered under the Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Credit, making now the time to consider adding them to your home. Smart HVAC systems, enhancing insulation, upgrading your windows, and energy efficient appliances are other ways to bring your home up to energy-efficiency standards.

There are endless options when it comes to upgrading your home with a remodel. These are just a few options to get you started. This is your home, and it is important to find the ways to make it all about you!
