Dhimiters gyros began with a trip Vangjel Kapbardhi took to Germany. Kapbardhi stopped at the kabab stands to grab a donër — which is essentially the same as a gyro, he said. Once home, Kapbardhi recreated the donër and, thus, Dhimiters gyros was born. In addition to their classic gyros, Dhimiters will feature lots of good eats at this year’s Food Truck Friday, including lamb and chicken gyros, crispy fries, chicken fritters, Water Edge cheese curds, and salads. Their most popular item is their slow-cooked vertical broiler lamb meat, which comprise the gyros. “What makes our gyros so special is our cucumber sauce, which we make ourself,” Kapbardhi said. Plus, their veggies are chosen fresh every morning. You may know Dhimiters from Rock’n on the River and the P10 Festival. “What I am looking forward to the most this summer is going to have to be all the cool events that we have already booked,” Kapbardhi said. Dhimiters, which is housed in Oakwood Mall, is on the lookout for some neat downtown locations to open up shop. Though their food truck is limited, their mall location features over 10 Greek entrees. They are also looking to build “Dhimiters tents,” which will serve gyros and other goodies. Overall, they’re looking forward to the event. “I’m hoping that this summer we double the numbers of people who get to experience such a cool event like Food Truck Friday,” he said. More information about Dhimiters can be found on their Facebook page.
