Looking for a way to jazz up your summer – or at least a good-sized hunk of concrete in downtown Eau Claire? Add a little color to your life at Chalkfest, a day-long celebration of local creativity in the form of sidewalk chalk art. The event takes place in Wilson Park as part of Summerfest on Aug. 8. Registration just opened for artists, so reserve your hunk of concrete by visiting Chalkfest.org, downloading the registration form, and getting in your fee (about $15) before July 31. Registered artists will begin their drawings early that morning and the public can begin watching their art take shape at 11am. Besides admiring local artists, event attendees can enjoy music, food, and chalkboard-sized games like Pictionary. Chalkfest will culminate in a 9pm Night-Light Reception, where the entire park, including the water fountain and trees, will be decked with lights – giving attendees ample opportunity to admire the finished works of art and mingle with the artists.
