The Gathering Of The Waters Powwow made its return to the city where rivers meet, thanks to an organized effort between the American Indian Studies program of UW-Eau Claire and Mayo Clinic Health System.

On Sept. 19 at the Sonnentag Center (1075 Menomonie St., Eau Claire) locals, area vendors and organizations from the Chippewa Valley gathered together. The Powwow's return to Eau Claire – following previous iteration's hosted in Lake Hallie – continues to honor reciprocal relationships between Native and non-Native community members.

New to the offering this year were a collection of Aztec dances that welcomed new traditional regalia and other ways of knowing beyond the Ho-Chunk, Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations of our region.

Indigenous makers were present during the event with original artwork, beaded jewelry and other gifts to view and purchase.
