UW-Eau Claire grad Dave Power, frontman and percussionist behind electronic endeavor White Dune, celebrated the release of RARE EARTH – the project's latest album – during a one-night performance with LIVE at LEONA's (406 Galloway St., Eau Claire) on Sept. 11.
Both the album and its release show – part of a larger sequence of shows across the Midwest – unfolded like a scene drawn from the best chapters of contemporary '90s electronic scenes.
"The album, out now on local imprint Bumpy Records, is a first class headphone trip," Josh Keller wrote for Minneapolis, Minn. music blog Reviler.
Kicking off the night was Minneapolis ensemble Squinny – who supplied fuzzy, brain-tingling sounds that complemented White Dune's "engineering wizardry."
Gleaming the Void, a multimedia art project by local Jacob Swanson, provided visuals to transition between each act throughout the night. Swanson, thanks to the use of analog video and "glitch art," carried local listeners along through White Dune's rhythms – taking them on a trip beyond the limits of time and form.
