It was a really chill and intimate show, but also anarchic in its own way. Those three adjectives describe the latest show at Abraxas Wax (320 Graham Ave., Suite 102) record store in downtown Eau Claire.

Joe George Shadid and Evan Weiss, the frontman of quartet Into It. Over It. traveled from Chicago, Ill. for a one-night performance on Sept. 5 with Eau Claire's own Asparagus closing the night.

"God quite literally shined beams onto Shadid as he took the stage at the perfect time – so I leaned into it," Volume One photographer Frank H. Robinson said, reflecting on the venue's golden hour ambiance.

Once one man and now a full ensemble, Weiss offered a stripped back performance – an homage to what once was as he performed solo renditions of the indie rock band's discography.

Back in 2025, Asparagus released their debut record 2004 Eric; attendees at Abraxas were sure to hear a sampling of this shoegaze, alternative, and ambient project. While their music is chock full of nostalgic themes and sounds, the band remains focused on living for the moment.
