On April 4 at the Pablo Center at the Confluence (128 Graham Ave., Eau Claire) the award-winning rock ensemble, Soul Asylum, gave local listeners a limited – one-of-a-kind – acoustic night of music.

Soul Asylum originally formed as a punk-influenced group in the 1980s in Minneapolis, Minn. Locals in the Chippewa Valley are likely to recognize their timeless 1993 hit "Runaway Train," which has received numerous accolades including a GRAMMY Award for "Best Rock Song."

Or, maybe you had the chance to see them shred live at a previous iteration of Rock Fest in Cadott.

Chippewa Valley attendees witnessed an "nostalgia overload" with the talents of Dave Pirner and Ryan Smith, two singer-songwriters and guitarists from the band. The group's latest album – released in 2024 – Slowly But Shirley, was one of the many Soul Asylum records featured on the April 4 setlist.
