Residents of the Eastside Hill neighborhood teamed up to organize an evening of winter luminaries on Jan. 31, to benefit its neighboring landscapes.
From 5-8pm at Boyd Park (1202 Fairway St., Eau Claire), volunteers for “Glow on the River: A Winter Luminary Walk at Boyd Park” decorated the trails with candle lanterns, “creating a calm, reflective winter walk along the river.”
Organized by the neighborhood association and in collaboration with Prairie Partners of Eau Claire, the night also acted as a fundraiser to benefit maintenance of the Boyd Park prairie and Fairway Trail.
“The things you can do with some lights and a few friends. Ordinary places become core memories,” Chad Rowekamp, a leading member of the Eastside Hill neighborhood in Eau Claire, shared online following the event.
Attendees enjoyed hot cocoa and cookies – provided by the Menomonie Market Food Co-op – available for purchase (suggested donations were $5/person; $7/couple; $10/family), followed by the hike itself and ice skating afterwards.
