“Every note we play is a chapter in our story, a journey through the heart of American roots music… where each lyric is a leaf in the vast forest of our sound,” The Wildwoods writes and shared with Chippewa Valley listeners this past weekend.

At 7pm on Saturday, Oct. 25, SHIFT (615 Graham Ave., Eau Claire) welcomed The Wildwoods — an entrancing folk-Americana trio based in Lincoln, Nebraska — along with Eau Claire’s very own Luray for an evening of intimate, heartfelt song sharing.

Luray, composed of Shannon Carey (vocals, banjo) and Scott Burton (guitar), opened the night with a “shimmering” blend of banjo and guitar, featuring indie-folk tunes from their full-length record, Dig, among other new songs in the works.

The Wildwoods, brought together by Noah (guitar) and Chloe Gose (violin) and complemented by longtime friend Andrew Vaggalis (bass) continued the evening with stories and songwriting of longing, rediscovery and other themes inspired by the natural landscapes which surround us. The trio performed a sequence of tracks from their latest album, Dear Meadowlark.
