More than half a dozen teams from around the Midwest – including Menomonie’s own Blue Caps – competed in the annual Menomonie Base Ball Festival on June 22-23, 2024, at River Heights Elementary. Unlike modern baseball teams, The Blue Caps and the other competitors play by circa 1860 “base ball” rules, which include underhanded pitching, balls caught on the first bounce being counted as outs, and other unfamiliar regulations. A silent auction and raffle at the festival raised funds for the Blue Caps to travel to Pennsylvania in July to play in the Gettysburg National 19th Century Base Ball Festival. Learn more about the team on Facebook or their website.
