Appletastic Times

Okay, so Apple’s recent release of the newest iPhone has stirred up quite a bit of news, but let’s not dismiss the remarkable and vast production of our “other” favorite apple this fall – the edible one. Although July and early August were a tad dry this year, this season’s apples are much more prepared for picking compared to 2012’s harvest. As detailed by a recent Chippewa Herald article, the rainstorms which occurred just before this year’s harvest, created a ready-to-pick, red landscape covering acres of the Chippewa Valley. Even though this year’s crop is still a tad short of the typical Wisconsin production, last year only met half of this season’s delicately delicious. Overall, the damp climate was beneficial for a more profitable apple harvest this year, potentially keeping away pesky fruit diseases, which can turn apples dry. Thus, with this fall’s plentiful production, it’s suggested to come get your picking on now all while the apples are still “appletastic.” A wide variety of apples will be ready for picking even through late October.
