Playing music is healthy for you! What some may have believed to be a musical myth, may actually have some evidence behind it. According to NewScientist, not to mention some handy MRI scans, children who are involved in music at early ages really do have more extensive wiring (i.e connectivity) in the corpus callosum region of the brain. What does this mean, you ask? It means that early musical training can provide long-lasting effects on the brain, increasing performance in a number of important areas. The evidence comes from the brain scans of 36 highly skilled musicians, with half being individuals who started music lessons before the age of seven and other half after the age of seven.
