Stout seeks gateway artist
Are you into architecture? Need some sweet gig to build up your resume? Well, slap your eyes on this, aspiring designers.
The University of Wisconsin-Stout is seeking artists or groups of artists to design a new campus gateway. This gateway would be at selected entry points to the University.
Any design needs to reflect the polytechnic mission of the school and be made with modern and preferably local materials. It should visually state stability, longevity, vitality, and sustainability. (Ninja turtle gate?)
Designers should also consider use of landscaping materials, minimal maintenance, power and lighting needs, structural footings and foundations, not hampering lawn or snow removal, and comply with city and state highway vision regulations.
These designs must be also adjustable to fit in multiple locations, the press release said. They also provide a handy map to show these locations. Talk about some problem solving.
You would probably get bonus points if you use sandstone, since those rock quarries made Menomonie famous in the first place! But this gate must also be easily fixable if it were vandalised.
UW-Stout has been planning to create Campus Gateways since 2009. You don’t even need to be a student to enter. Check out this PDF for more information.
The application deadline is Monday, August 15, so you don’t have much time. Applicants must include a one-page letter of interest, a resume per each applicant or team member, and 10 JPG images of relevant or existing work.
Electronic submissions can be sent to Kristi Krimpelbein at krimpelbeink@uwstout.edu.
If you have any questions, whip out your cell and call Scott Griesbach who is the chairperson of the Campus Gateways Design Committee at 715-232-1121.
